The Hair Challenge: February

First off, I want to say I’m sorry for not posting for about two months, I’ve just been extremely busy these past couple of months, but I’m back and I’m going to start doing my best to post once a week (again, sometimes on Saturday’s, and usually on Sunday’s, and occasionally on another day of the week).

Last month’s challenge was to do braids for most of the month. I am happy to report, that for this month for the most part, stuck with the challenge of doing braids almost everyday, though I don’t have any photos to show you this time because I kept forgetting to take some.

Now for this month, March I decided to stop the challenge, because I forgot to think of a different hairstyle, and March is pretty much over anyways.

Marketing is Essential

I’m sure everyone’s heard of marketing, and what kind of impact it can have on a business. This is exactly what I’ve been learning about in my new Business Marketing class which started this past week. This project I spent the day working on, and I would say I think I did I good job on it. I used Prezi for my assignment and I really liked how it turned out. Homework has been my main focus for the past two weeks as exams and summatives have been happening. Now that’s over I can spend more time posting again once a week. I know that I’m not that consistent (well for the past two weeks), but before last week I had never forgot to blog, but now I can more often because I am through the first stressful month of the school year.

The Hair Challenge: The Check in

058At the end of December I decided to do something new I came up with; The Hair Challenge: A (sorta) New Years Resolution, where I said I was going to do one hairstyle for a whole month as sort of a “signature do”. This went pretty well for the first couple of weeks, and then I stopped putting my hair up but as the month comes to an end, I’m finishing off my month like I started it. This month was all about fast and easy buns. Now I did deviate a little from the bun, as I did one day do a half up, half down bun look. It was fun to try and come up with different ways to do buns, one day I ended up making a bun sort of, it wasn’t a bun but it looked like it so I let it go.

Next month for my hair challenge I’ve decided that braids will be my hairstyle for the month. We’ll see how February goes, and I’ll do an update again at the end of the month.

Work, Work, Work

It seems that as you get older you get a lot more work, and obligations in your life. I know for me that’s exactly what’s happening these days. I think that most of the time I have it under control, but when it comes to hectic times in your year, it just seems like everything is out of control. For me these hectic times are defiantly the months leading up to exam time. As someone in high school right now, I sometimes find it hard to juggle a bunch of things in my life at once. Probably one of the hardest things is trying to make time, and actually committing to pulling out my books and studying.

I have a few tips to help with the crazy month that is January. For exams, I suggest bring home your homework for the Christmas break. Yeah, I know you probably don’t want start studying during the break – trust me it’s not that fun, BUT,  if you start early then you don’t have to worry about cramming in the last week of January, AND you can take your sweet time, just do a couple of pages, concepts or class discussions a day. Another tip to go along with that is, don’t wait till the evening to do review, get up early in the morning and study for one hour a day, say 8 to 9am, and then you’ve got your study session in for the day and you’d technically just be starting class by then, and you can go strait back to bed if you want.

Another really big thing to help the information stick into your mind better is finding out what your learning style is. I’m sure if you’re a certain you’ve done one where you take a quiz, answer some questions and it tells you want your learning style is. If you don’t know what the learning styles are, there’s auditory, visual, and kinetics. Auditory is when you take in information best by hearing things, so recordings, lectures,  and saying information out loud. Visual learning is when you need to see things to remember it best, so diagrams, graphs, pictures, lists on paper, things like that, and finally Kinetics or tactile is when you need to touch things, and or move while learning, so the best things would be hands on learning with models. If you find out your learning style that will help a lot because it will save time, and allow you to have more time for things that you enjoy. One last tip, DO NOT wait untill the week or the day before the exam to study because that’s not a good idea, and it only creates stress and no one likes that.

When it comes to exams I can’t say I’m an expert, but I have gotten through two years of it already, and I did pretty good following these tips. Good luck to everyone taking exams at the end of January.

The Hair Challenge: A (sorta) New Years Resolution

As the Christmas season has come and gone, it’s almost the start of the new year, 2014. Now every year it’s tradition for people everywhere to make a new year’s resolution, and with that we get the classic going to the gym and eating healthy, learn something new, read more and get organized (Although if you are serious about getting organized consider hiring a professional organizer in your area to help you). Although a lot of my friends and people I know do make resolutions, let’s face it, most often than not after January the resolutions are forgotten and never lived up to. For this reason exactly I never make new year’s resolutions, because I know that I won’t follow through with them.

This year is a little different; I was looking at some hair articles (like I regularly do these days), and I got thinking, and came up with a cool hair challenge that I could do in the new year. So yes, in a way it is a new years resolution, but it’s much than that, it’s a fun way to spice up my everyday routine. The challenge I came up was for each new month I chose a hairstyle I like, and do that hairstyle everyday for a month. So that hairstyle (whatever I chose to do) will be like my “signature hairstyle” for the month. This is different than a new years resolution because I’ve always been into hair and styling hair (I wanted to be a hair dresser when I was younger) and so this challenge is a fun activity that I know I’ll follow through with because I love doing my hair, and it won’t seem like I need to change something (I feel like that’s what a resolution is).

I’m setting a goal of doing this challenge for 3 months to start, and when March comes around I’ll see how I’m doing and evaluate from there. For the month of January I’ve decided to start with buns because there fast quick and easy, especially with exams coming up at the end of January I can’t be spending a ton of time on my hair when I can be studying. So hopefully this challenge goes well, and at the end of each month I’ll do an update on how I did with my hairstyle that month.

As it is the holidays, I just wanted to say a belated Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year, I hope 2014 is great for everyone!

Studying: The Joy of Student Life

Christmas is almost here, which is great, but for a student like me, it means homework, homework and a LOT of studying. Christmas is a great time of year, but with everything good comes something not so good, and in my case a little (okay, a lot) something called exams.

Ahh the lovely invention of exams that come twice a year, lovely. For a lot of people, exams are not enjoyable – they’re stressful, time-consuming and inconvenient. For those people out there that like to procrastinate or just have a hard time, there are a few tactics I like using to help me get through the crazy time.

Firstly I like to make study notes for the class. Ideally you want to create study notes for each unit, but if you didn’t think to do that, now would be a good time because study notes are going to be a life saver. I make study notes one, because it’s helpful for me to write out information, and two, because when I’m on the go I can take them with me and study where ever I am. It also really helps to type them up just in case you accidentally lose them you still have a copy.

Secondly, I like to find a study buddy, preferably someone in the specific class. Having someone to bounce concepts off of is really helpful, and a much more fun way to study than the traditional sit at home and read the textbook method of studying.

Now I don’t know about you, but for me I’m an auditory learner, so I also like to take one extra step and record on my phone the study notes I wrote out. Now you’re probably not going to go that far, but I once lost my study notes, but I had luckily voice recorded my notes and was able to study by listening to them. Recording your study notes also gives a different way to being able to study on the go, because unless your in a car and not driving, you can’t exactly be on the go and read your notes at the same time. So recording notes is great because as your walking to school, or anywhere you can listen to them, and you’re making great use of your time.

Those are just a few suggestions on different ways to study – some that are obvious, and some that are a little more creative. Finding the way you learn best is really helpful, and best of all it saves you time and energy.

Organizing is the Key to Succes: Be Prepared

Now that its November it’s time for Christmas season (yay!), but when Christmas roles around so does the snow, ice and bad road conditions. Yesterday we had our first big snow fall, and the roads got really dangerous because so much snow fell in a such a short period of time.

I know a lot of people like to procrastinate (I know I do sometimes), but now is the time to make sure your car is winter ready (even if it hasn’t snowed yet where you live). To start make a list of things that you and your family might need in case of an emergency (like your car breaks down on the side of the road), things like extra blankets, first aid kit, roadside flares and signals, and a flashlight are just a few things you should concider putting in the back of your car.

As the snow season begins I encourage everyone to be safe when youre driving no matter how old you are – 16 or 160, be safe and drive slow.

When Life Gets the Best of You

This past week just flew by so fast for me. I’ve been so busy this week that I forgot to do a blog post yesterday (sorry about that), but as I’m sure pretty much everyone at some point in their life has just gotten so busy there wasn’t time to do somethings that were ment to do.

I actually spent my weekend catching up on some long over due guitar practicing (which I now can play another new song fairly well) and spending some time with one of my youth group friends  that i hadn’t talked to in  a while.

When life gets too busy, stop and make time for yourself. Which is what I’m doing right now, writting this blog post and drinking hot chocolate – I’m concidering doing a blog post about why I love hot chocolate so much, so look out for that sometime soon.

Anyway, life sometimes gets in the way and you just gotta deal with it.
